TastingRoom.com - Another wine sampler site

Just saw the announcement of yet another wine online store that allows customers to taste a "sample" of wine before they buy. Tastingroom.com uses T.A.S.T.E technology, like what Brixr.com uses to produce their TinyBottles, to make their own little test tube sized 50 ml bottles. That allows them to put together tasting kits from select wineries.
According to the article, TastingRoom.com visitors "will have the opportunity to purchase four and six-pack wine sampling kits selected by each winery to give consumers a tasting flight similar to what would be poured at their tasting room bars. Wineries select the wines in each of their branded sample wine selection and theme each kit to showcase varietals, best sellers or exclusive releases". [Yahoo.com Finance News].
The idea, of course, is to get the tasting room experience at home. The wineries, who are feeling the soft sales at the tasting rooms, get another venue to sell their wine with the hope that once customers have a wee taste they'll want more. That amounts to more full bottle sales. Hey, I may go ahead and open a tasting room right in The TreeHouse at the WinoTripping HQ!
Both TastingRoom.com and Brixr.com are certainly onto something. What I like about Brixr.com's wine kits is the added value of the "on demand" video tastings. Customers can buy a tasting kit from Brixr.com, then can go back to the website and taste the same wines along with the professionals. That's pretty cool.
Right now TastingRoom.com has about a half dozen wineries on board and says it'll add more each month. We'll keep an eye on this developing trend and hope to try something from TastingRoom.com soon.
